چکیده

Project Herbert is an autonomous robotic Rubik’s Cube solver that is composed of a complex network of mechanical and electrical devices. In this project our team interfaced with these complex mechanical and electrical devices so as to design and create an autonomous robot that is capable of solving a Rubik’s cube within two minutes of time. This project is an integration of various technologies including: mechanical actuators, electrical stepper motors, single-board computers, field-programmable gate arrays, and video cameras.

Rubik’s Cube Puzzle as a Benchmark for Service Robots

This paper describes Rubik’s cube manipulation as an example of highly demanding benchmark task for two-handed service robot. Vision is used both for acquiring the cube (servoing) and identifying its initial configuration. During two-handed manipulation force/torque measurements are used to prevent jamming of the cube. Rubik’s cube solver, nominal trajectory generation, visual servoing, and pos...

Solving Rubik's Cube Using SAT Solvers

Rubik’s Cube is an easily-understood puzzle, which is originally called the “magic cube”. It is a well-known planning problem, which has been studied for a long time. Yet many simple properties remain unknown. This paper studies whether modern SAT solvers are applicable to this puzzle. To our best knowledge, we are the first to translate Rubik’s Cube to a SAT problem. To reduce the number of va...

Puzzle games (like Rubik’s cube) solver

This project is a continuation of the PTAM (Parallel Tracking and Mapping for Small AR Workspaces) like approach solution [1]. Basically, it turned to be not an appropriate solution for recognizing full cube under not ideal illumination. Since the process might fail during the processing of any face out of six, it has to start from scratch, thus it will not be finished at all. On the contrary, ...

Prospects for Combining Task and Motion Planning for Bi-Manual Solution of the Rubik’s Cube

We first describe a robot that solves the Rubik’s cube using separate task and motion planning with sensor-enabled closed-loop execution. The task solver uses iterative deepening Astar to plan the sequence of cube moves. Then a special-purpose grasp planner and controller places the manipulator hands on the cube to execute the task plan. The task requires two hands and two-handed re-grasping ma...

The Group Structure of the Rubik’s Cube

The Rubik’s Cube is a familiar toy that has embedded itself into popular culture since its invention in 1974 by Ernő Rubik. It is especially popular among mathematicians, for good reason. In this paper, we will investigate some of the interesting mathematical structure underlying the Rubik’s Cube, which was documented by David Joyner in his book, Adventures in Group Theory [Joy]. Let us conside...
